The cola tree is an evergreen plant that can grow to 25 meters tall. It is native to West Africa in countries such as Senegal, Togo, Liberia and Ivory Coast. The part of the plant which is of interest as an aphrodisiac is the seed (the kola nut).
Local names
The kola nut goes by a number of common names such as abata cola, Bese fitaa (white cola), bitter cola, koko and kola among several others.
Androgenic properties
Cola acuminata extracts have been demonstrated through scientific study to increases locomotor activities and androgen receptor mediated pathways which are needed in the signaling of sexual stimulation and response. Kola also improves libido via its neuro-stimulatory effects i.e. it boosts the transmission of nerve stimuli which increases sensitivity to touch; an essential requirement to effective sexual intercourse. It is also a psychoactive substance; it increases the alertness of the brain and the Central Nervous System and improves the CNS’s response to nerve stimulation. Kola also boosts cardiovascular activities which enhances the flow of blood to all body parts but more specifically to the erectile tissues of the penis and helps with erection.
